Welcome to our first AGC Ski Lodge newsletter!

Included in this newsletter is an update on what’s happening at the lodge and around the valley pre-season 2024 along with a calendar of important dates (For the event calendar click here). This includes dates for bookings, key Interschools race dates, some interesting cross country highlights and events that may be of interest to our members, their families and guests as they pursue their love of snow sports and all the activities the mountains have to offer. There are many other activities on offer during the season for example snow shoeing day trips, back country touring and some more relaxed options at the Mountain Day Spa at the Man from Snowy River Hotel plus various afternoon après sessions.

AGM:

Our AGM and Annual Golf Day was held on March 5th. There was a good turnout for golf which was won by Matt Donohue with 39 points, congratulations Matt, your name will be added to the trophy which hangs above the fireplace in the lodge, Matt’s 2nd win!! Thank you to all those who were able to attend the meeting. Dinner in the Dining Room of The Australian Golf Club following the meeting was an excellent way to catch up with other members away from the snow, a delicious 3 course meal, great service and of course good company!

LODGE MAINTENANCE:

After the extensive renovations last year to the entry area, drying room, ski storage and managers flat things were a lot quieter this summer. We have replaced several windows with condensation issues after loss of integrity to the double glazing. In addition to this we will attend to standard annual tasks such as steam cleaning of carpets, full chimney cleanout, kitchen exhaust fan cleanout, sterilising of mattresses and sofa surfaces along with basic touch up painting in heavy traffic areas and of course a thorough top to bottom clean and spruce up before we welcome you back for the 2024 season.

I have been in discussion with NPWS regarding a revegetation program which will commence around the front of the lodge after winter, stay tuned as we may invite members for a planting bee weekend!

SUMMER STAYS:

Over summer we trialled hosting a few charity groups via Peak Learning Adventures. These groups of around 12-16 would arrive Friday afternoon enjoy a 2 course dinner, breakfast Saturday before heading off for a full day Kosci hike with a packed lunch/snacks then return for dinner Saturday and leave after breakfast Sunday morning. It was a pleasure to host these groups, for example Red Nose, Kids Cancer Australia, The Stroke Foundation. The attendees varied from fundraisers, victims, affected family members and board members, each with a goal of climbing to the top of Kosci for themselves and their charity. Very inspiring. After this successful trial we have several of these groups planned for next summer.

We will also be offering set dates to lodge members. The final / 4th section of the Snowies Alpine Walk (Perisher to Bullocks Flat) Snowies Alpine Walk | NSW Environment and Heritage is planned for completion next summer and will result in 55kms of class 4 self guided walking through majestic alpine and sub alpine landscapes, including the summit of Mt Kosciuszko. Walkers can choose to do any section of the track in a single day or combine sections for 2, 3 or 4 day walks. In addition to the walking / hiking trail network it’s only a short drive to Jindabyne, Berridale or Thredbo for other activity options in summer such as mountain biking, paddle boarding, boating, fishing, golf, wine tasting, brewery visits and a cafe to suit every tastebud! Stay tuned for more news on summer stays in our post winter newsletter!

PERISHER:

EPIC Pass has seen several price rises already, still well worth purchasing if you plan to ride 5+ days, the skitube add on is a must as well!  It is also recommended to prebook lessons/creche in advance.

The iconic Perisher Double Chair has been removed in preparation for the installation of the 6 seater for 2025 season. Additional snowmaking has been installed in Smiggins, great news for this area.

Thanks for reading! Keep snow dancing, keep the bookings rolling in and feel free to contact Gary (garyfifer@agcski.com.au)  or myself (tracy@agcski.com.au) for any further information.
